First Place

Picture
Texas Two Step by Jennifer Polnaszek.  This painting has wonderful value control.  It places the best light colors and the best dark colors on the main character and controls the background in the middle value range so that it doesn’t compete.  Design-wise, the subject is beautifully placed off center in the rectangle.  The artist captured the pose beautifully.

Second Place

Picture
Pink Iris by Prisilla Wicker.  This is a wonderful example of very tender changes that occur.  The delicacy is beautifully handled with strength and variety of dark colors in the background.  It almost feels like there is a glow to this painting, and I appreciate that very much.

Third Place

Picture
Sunny Porch by Eddie Sutherland.  I really like the value control that puts the best light and dark colors on the main “character” and subdues the subordinate “characters” so that they don’t compete.  I admire precision where it is handled well.  This painting has great handling of a challenging subject.
