Barbara Nechis, Juror
Barbara Nichis will juror the show and will be picking the winners from JPEGs; therefore, the quality is extremely important for the online submitting for viewing.
Barbara's style is a masterful balance of spontaneity and control of the watercolor brush. She holds a BA in History and Fine Arts from the University of Rochester and an MS from Alfred University . She was a faculty member of Parsons School of Design for many years and has taught seminars at Pratt Institute, throughout North America, Europe, and Asia . She has served as a juror and director of the American Watercolor Society and is the author of Watercolor From the Heart and Watercolor the Creative Experience.
"When making my selections, in addition to technical competence I look for work that appears to be particular to each artist and try to choose what I believe could be recognized as such even without a signature. Drawing and compositional skills, control of paint, shape and edge, an understanding of the proportions of figure or landscape, considered rather than random color and works that demonstrate intent rather than accidental results are among my other considerations. I aim for an eclectic show, not favoring any school, style or technique. My choice of awards reflects this as well.
