Juror's Statement This is a powerful show with lots of vibrant colors. When I judge a show, I think of how the show will relate to future generations. I think about children coming to the show and viewing a painting. This painting may resonate with a child and several years later is the inspiration of why that child wants to paint, and begins to paint. I really like the variety of subject matter and use of mixed media in addition to the traditional watercolor paintings. I want to pick a show that exhibits all the different styles of paintings from the realistic to the abstract to everything in between, as art is subjective. All artists express themselves differently. For example, a realistic painting slightly out of focus can become an abstract painting. it is all how you view a particular painting. I am impressed with the caliber of artists here in the Waterloo Watercolor Group. I hope the show touches people emotionally that view it, as I think it will be due to the color and statement of the artist. Joe Fettingis |
